I know I’m behind, but I just now watched the Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington. My biggest problem with the movie, even though it is arguably one of the “most-Christian” movies that has come out of Hollywood in a long time, is that there was no Jesus in it. The movie literally does not contain the gospel. By quoting the Scriptures without qualifying them in light of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection, this movie actually does more harm than good. It teaches people to apply the Bible to their lives as if they can “keep the faith (Denzel’s final words).” Since Jesus was not mentioned at all, I’m curious as to who Denzel ”kept his faith in?” This movie thus is worse than what Joel Osteen teaches on a weekly basis. Biblically, your faith is only as good as its object; and you are not the object; neither is God the Father apart from Christ the Object. You must come to God through Jesus. Jesus is the ONLY Way to God (John 14:6); therefore, if you submit to the therapeutic Deism found in The Book of Eli, you will split hell wide open. Repent and trust in Christ alone today. You need the finished work of Christ credited to your account through faith alone in order to enjoy the grace of God! The Bible is more than a book of moralism that you can accomplish! It is a book about Jesus!
