10 Reasons Why You Are Probably A Better Pastor Than Me

The higher that the number is on this list, the less that I believe that the subject is a problem in Evangelical Churches; however, I mention it because I believe that it is a problem.  Click at the end of each point if you want to see a detailed explanation.

1.  I believe the Bible says what it means and means what it says.  I neither have the luxury nor the God-given ability to speak beyond the Scriptures as if my words carry divine authority…read more

2. I believe that biblical discipline is biblical and therefore is not optional.  Every church I pastor will be lead to eventually affirm and submit to the biblical discipline of the church.  We ALL desperately need accountability…read more

3.  I do not care about numbers; I care about God’s glory.  I know that the New Testament Scripture writers were not Southern Baptists because if they were, they would not have merely counted the men that were saved, but they would have counted the men, women, and children as well; same goes for the people that were healed in Christ’s miracles…read more

4.  I believe that reaching sinners with the gospel is not the church’s primary goal; rather her primary goal is found in helping sinners and saints see God’s glory in His church and world through Christ.  I do care about how sinners are “reached” and how God’s people are motivated, because God cares about these realities.  If you are using contests, bribes, money, etc. to get God’s people to be obedient to Him, then you are not bringing glory to God…read more

5.  I believe that much of what passes as biblical leadership today is unbiblical.  I believe that a third of what John Maxwell says is unbiblical, and is actually detrimental to pastors and churches…read more

6.  I believe that a preacher’s ability to keep his audience’s attention is terribly overrated.  There is virtually NO responsibility on the hearer to listen because what is being preached is THE Word of God…read more

7.  I believe that evangelism should primarily occur on a daily basis as our people verbally take the name of Jesus with them as they go.  We need to quit overemphasizing VBS, and we simply must continually emphasize the necessity of Southern Baptists verbally taking the name of Jesus with them as they go…read more

8.  I believe that Modernism is an idol and should be repented of.  The emphasis on buildings, programs, pragmatism, music, etc. de-emphasizes the gospel.  It shows how ashamed we are of the gospel.  We believe that people will not come to Christ without                              or that God’s people will not worship Him without                         …read more

9.  I believe that expository preaching should be the primary diet of my congregation.  Expository preaching should be the primary diet of the church because it guards the church from the pastor’s fallen perceived hypotheses concerning the church’s needs…read more

10.  I believe that a polished personality is a violation of the 9th commandment: Thou Shalt Not Lie.  If you know exactly what to say and how to say it in order to get the “best” response from your people, then you are a manipulator; you have taught yourself, made yourself fake, in order to get the “best” reaction from your people…read more

10 Reasons Why You SHOULD Participate in UNGODLY Media With Your Children

Share

Because you cannot separate your children from their sin-natures, you must prepare them to handle their sin-natures.  We must cultivate the fruit of the Spirit in our children, realizing that they will always desire wickedness on earth; yet, they must learn to appropriate and cultivate the self-control of God the Holy Spirit, His fruit in their lives…Read More…

If your children participate in any form of media, they already participate in ungodly media.  Ungodly media is not merely immoral media, but is any media that disagrees with the Bible in any area.  The nightly news for example is full of ungodly media, as is American Idol, America’s Got Talent, Scooby Doo, Sponge Bob, etcRead More…

You must participate in ungodly media with your children so…

1. They can see the outworkings of contemporary worldviews.  Secular humanism for example is hard to recognize for the average Christian because it is largely Christ-less Christianity.  Types of Secular humanists attend our churches regularly while viewing the Bible as a book they can accomplish and Christ as an example that they can follow…Read More…

2. They can recognize the various lies of culture.  On most sitcoms, husbands are 1) stupid, 2) submissive to their wives, 3) uninvolved in raising their children, etc…Read More…

3. They can discern what the prevalent worldviews are in the media.  All media has an agenda that either reveals God’s glory or hides it…Read More…

4. They can learn how to enjoy media unto God’s glory alone.  Christians must not enjoy media like Atheists, pagans, or non-Christians.  Christians must enjoy God through enjoying media; thus, they must hate evil and cling to what is good…Read More…

5. They can tell the difference between Greco-Roman love and Biblical love.  Most definitions for “love” that are presented in movies, TV shows, books, plays, songs, etc. argue for love being an uncontrollable force that humans have no control over.  People speak often about “falling in love,” and consequently about “falling out of love,” as well.  The Bible however…Read More…

6. They can learn how to practice discernment.  Your children will participate in media for the rest of their lives.  It is part of the world that they live in.  They will either enjoy media unto God’s glory alone, or unto an idol’s glory alone…Read More…

7. They can tell the difference between godly media and ungodly media.  Ungodly media is any media that does not communicate the saving gospel of Christ.  Thus, any movie, TV show, song, play, book, etc. that does not include the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus as the answer for what’s wrong with the world, either needs further revelation that you must provide or is presenting a false gospel…Read More…

8. They can recognize the difference between cultural Christianity and biblical Christianity.  Cultural Christianity emphasizes the various traditions of evangelical Christianity, often Southern and associated with fellowshipping with family and friends.  Biblical Christianity however cares less about the traditions of men, and rather enjoys God through Christ…Read More…

9. They can see how the media answers the various worldview questions all men seek to answer.  Dr. Voddie Baucham lists four worldview questions that all humanity asks and seeks to answer…Read More…

10. They can recognize the difference between therapeutic deism and Christianity.  Both of these religions come from the Bible; however, only one includes the finished work of Christ.  Veggie Tales for example is Christ-less…Read More…

Part 5: 10 Reasons Why You SHOULD Watch UNGODLY Movies with Your Children

Share

The introduction can be found here, part 1 here, part 2 here, part 3 here, and part 4 here.

If your children participate in any form of media, they already participate in ungodly media.  Ungodly media is not merely immoral media, but is any media that disagrees with the Bible in any area.

You must watch ungodly movies with your children so…

9. They can see how the media answers the various worldview questions all men seek to answer.  Dr. Voddie Baucham lists four worldview questions that all humanity asks and seeks to answer: 1) Who am I?  2) Why am I here?  3) What’s wrong with the world?  4) How can we fix what’s wrong with the world? (The Ever Loving Truth).  The Bible argues: 1. You are a creation of the most-high God.  You are the crowning glory of God’s creation. 2) You are here to bring glory and honor to God.  3) We are what’s wrong with the world.  In our sin we are not doing what God has created us to do.  4) The world is fixed by the redemption provided by Jesus Christ alone.  Almost every movie, TV show, song, or book seeks to answer at least one of these questions; and many try to answer all of them.

10. They can recognize the difference between therapeutic deism and Christianity.  Both of these religions come from the Bible; however, only one includes the finished work of Christ.  Veggie Tales for example is Christ-less.  It breaks this writer’s heart that most Christian adults and children are not discerning enough to recognize that Veggie Tales is merely Christ-less therapeutic deism.  Just because it comes from the Bible does not make it biblical!  All biblical truth must be understood in light of Christ’s physical life, death, and resurrection or it is not full biblical truth; and thus, it is not Christian.  Veggie Tales teaches the Bible as if it is a book that humans can accomplish.  Almost every episode concludes with a Bible verse that the audience can accomplish.  If humanity can accomplish God’s requirments, then why did Jesus die for sinners?

Part 4: 10 Reasons Why You SHOULD Watch UNGODLY Movies with Your Children

7. 8. They can recognize the difference between cultural Christianity and biblical Christianity.  Cultural Christianity emphasizes the various traditions of evangelical Christianity, often Southern and associated with fellowshipping with family and friends.  Biblical Christianity however cares less about the traditions of men, and rather enjoys God through Christ.  The glory and joy of Sunday is ultimately God alone.

Here is an example of cultural Christianity:
